Melt In Your Mouth Cookies

Ingredients
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/2 cup butter (no substitutions)
- 1/2 cup shortening (crisco is good)
- 1 large egg, well beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup sweetened flaked coconut
- 1/2 cup nuts, chopped
- 1/2 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips (optional)
Recipe
- 1 set oven to 325°f.
- 2 in a medium bowl; sift together flour, baking soda, salt and cream of tartar.
- 3 in another bowl, cream the butter, shortening, vanilla, and brown sugar; add beaten egg.
- 4 add the sifted dry ingredients to the creamed mixture; mix well.
- 5 add the coconut, nuts and chocolate chips (if using); stir well.
- 6 drop the cookie dough onto a greased cookie sheet; press flat with a fork dipped in cream.
- 7 bake 15-20 minutes.
