Melt In Your Mouth Cookies

Total Time: 20 mins Preparation Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 cup butter (no substitutions)
  • 1/2 cup shortening (crisco is good)
  • 1 large egg, well beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup sweetened flaked coconut
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 set oven to 325°f.
  • 2 in a medium bowl; sift together flour, baking soda, salt and cream of tartar.
  • 3 in another bowl, cream the butter, shortening, vanilla, and brown sugar; add beaten egg.
  • 4 add the sifted dry ingredients to the creamed mixture; mix well.
  • 5 add the coconut, nuts and chocolate chips (if using); stir well.
  • 6 drop the cookie dough onto a greased cookie sheet; press flat with a fork dipped in cream.
  • 7 bake 15-20 minutes.
