Pecan Chocolate Squares

Total Time: 40 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped toasted pecans or 1 1/2 cups almonds

Recipe

  • 1 heat oven to 350 degrees. grease 9 x 13 inch baking pan. in large bowl, with mixer on high, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. add yolk and vanilla, and beat until combined. reduce mixer speed to low, and add flour and salt until soft dough forms.
  • 2 press dough evenly into bottom of pan. bake 25 minutes or until browned. sprinkle chocolate pieces on top, and bake 5 minutes longer. remove from oven; with knife, spread melted chocolate to cover. top with nuts, gently pressing into chocolate. let cool completely.
