Honey Oat Hermits

Ingredients

  • Servings: 1
  • 430 ml rolled oats
  • 120 g cake flour, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 125 g shortening
  • 250 ml honey
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 50 ml sour milk
  • 250 ml raisins, chopped
  • 60 ml nuts, chopped
  • 8 maraschino cherries, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon, rind of, grated

Recipe

  • 1 cream together shortening and honey, beating until light. add well beaten eggs and sour milk, chopped fruit and nuts, then lemon juice and rind.
  • 2 sift flour, baking soda, salt and spices, add rolled oats and blend well.
  • 3 add to the cookie mixture. chill and then drop onto oiled cookie sheet by the spoonful.
  • 4 bake in a moderate oven until cooked.
