Honey Oat Hermits
Ingredients

- 430 ml rolled oats
- 120 g cake flour, sifted
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 125 g shortening
- 250 ml honey
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 50 ml sour milk
- 250 ml raisins, chopped
- 60 ml nuts, chopped
- 8 maraschino cherries, chopped
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon lemon, rind of, grated
Recipe
- 1 cream together shortening and honey, beating until light. add well beaten eggs and sour milk, chopped fruit and nuts, then lemon juice and rind.
- 2 sift flour, baking soda, salt and spices, add rolled oats and blend well.
- 3 add to the cookie mixture. chill and then drop onto oiled cookie sheet by the spoonful.
- 4 bake in a moderate oven until cooked.
