Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 2 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon clove
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup crystallized ginger
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup mild molasses
- sugar
Recipe
- 1 mix first six ingredients
- 2 mix in crystalized ginger.
- 3 beat brown sugar, shortening, and butter in large bowl until fluffy.
- 4 add egg and molasses and beat until blended.
- 5 add flour mixture until just blended then cover and cool for one hour.
- 6 heat oven to 350 and roll in 1 1/4 inch balls and roll in sugar.
- 7 bake until cracked for 12 minutes.
