Raisin-vanilla-plaits

Total Time: 40 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 25 mins

Ingredients

  • 200 ml low-fat quark (firm yoghurt or cream cheese work as well)
  • 65 ml milk
  • 65 ml oil (you might be able to sub some apple sauce for it, but i havent tried that)
  • 50 g sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 600 ml flour
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 50 g raisins
  • 1 egg , plus 1 tbs milk for glazing

Recipe

  • 1 preheat the oven to 180°c (350°f).
  • 2 in a big bowl combine oil, low-fat quark, milk, sugar, vanilla and salt.
  • 3 in a second bowl combine flour and baking powder and add to the wet ingredients. knead into a smooth dough.
  • 4 incorporate the raisins (or chocolate chips or cranberries) and divide dough into four equal portions.
  • 5 divide each portion into three equal portions again and roll each of these out into long coils (about fingerthick or slightly thinner).
  • 6 take three of the coils and braid into a plait.
  • 7 place plaits on a paper-lined baking sheet and brush with the glaze.
  • 8 bake for 20-25 minutes until lightly browned.
