Glazed Almond Strips

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter or 3/4 cup margarine, softened
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons milk
  • 3 drops almond extract
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 slightly beaten egg
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds or 1/2 cup pine nuts
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar

Recipe

  • 1 in a mixing bowl, beat the butter or margarine with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. add the brown sugar, milk, and almond extract; beat till combined. mix in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. stir in any remaining flour with a wooden spoon. do not chill dough.
  • 2 pack the dough into a cookie press fitted with a ribbon plate. force dough through cookie press onto ungreased cookie sheets, making 2 1/2-inch ribbons about 1-inch apart. using a pastry brush, brush each cookie with egg , then sprinkle with almond or pine nuts and granulated sugar.
  • 3 bake in a preheated 375f oven for 7-8 minutes, or till edges are firm but not brown, let cool 1 minute on cookie sheets. remove cookies from pans and cool on a rack.
